Go, dog. Go! / by Eastman, P. D.

Publication: 1989 . 64 pages : 24 cm. Date: 1989

This book is terrific for first time readers, and I dare say even good as a confidence booster for not so first time readers - you know, those who can read fairly well but may slip ever so often. It's full of simple words, with slightly challenging words here and there, like "again," "over," and "those." It is a looong story, but that's actually helpful because you are able to break up the book in sections. You can work on comprehension. "Now what happened the last time we read?" Check it out, even buy it. Added 08/15/2018 by Mary D.

As a first book for my child to practice and build his reading skills, it was just fine. My child was excited that he was able to read a book! Best to practice sight words, like "and" and "the," prior to reading this book, as well as blending. Added 06/27/2018 by Mary D.

Red madness : how a medical mystery changed what we eat / by Jarrow, Gail,

Publication: 2014 . 192 pages : 26 cm Date: 2014

Fantastic book that reads like a mystery. Reminds me of "All the President's Men" in that we know that the mystery has been solved, that we may even know the answer, but what was the investigative process? Great way for anyone to see the connection between science and literature, and to see how some assumptions about a society and its people can lead to incorrect conclusions. Engineers of victory : the problem solvers who turned the tide in the Second World War / by Kennedy, Paul M.,

Publication: New York : Random House, 2013 . xxvi, 436 p., [16] p. of plates : 25 cm. Date: 2013

I thought the book was going to cover the details of technologies of WWII. He even stated that the book was not to cover the general strategies. However, the book just superficially covers the people who developed the weapons or equipment - then jumps back into the strategies ?? The book probably tried to cover too many facets of the war. Disappointing. Added 02/22/2018 by Darren K R.

Year of no clutter : a memoir / by Schaub, Eve O,

Publication: 2017 . xxviii, 290 pages : 21 cm Date: 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and actually read the whole thing, cover to cover, AND I did it within about a week. That's quite unusual for me. I find the subject matter interesting, but what really made this an outstanding read is the writing style of Eve Schaub. She really had me tickled many, many times while reading. I just couldn't get enough of the story and had a hard time putting it down. Ms. Schaub's sense of humor might not be for everyone, but it was right up my alley.

Interestingly, Ms. Schaub references Marie Kondo and HER book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up", which, even MORE interestingly, I just happened to pick up at the same time as THIS one. It was right there on my shelf while I was reading "Year Of No Clutter"! Cool! I've read Ms Kondo's book before and found it had a tremendous amount of value to me.

There is some profanity in "Year Of No Clutter". I'm thinking that if I'd known that before reading, I might not have taken the time to read it because of my personal stance on that kind of thing. To be fair, the profanities are not rude or vulgar, just exclamations, mostly. I'd prefer a read without them, but I just want to warn you...it's there. Despite the profanity, it's a great story, full of laughs and full of self-awareness on the part of Ms. Schaub.

I'm glad I read "Year Of No Clutter". I'll be awfully tempted to pick up her previous book, "Year Of No Sugar" and I expect it will be just as entertaining, and I wouldn't be too surprised if I learned a thing or two. Added 01/30/2018 by Jay W.

The woman in cabin 10 / by Ware, Ruth,

Publication: 2016 . 517 pages (large print) ; 23 cm. Date: 2016

I usually read romantic novels but since I joined a book club I'm forced to go out of my comfort zone. This one caught me by surprise! Suspense and twists throughout. The beginning is not that great but it gets interesting pretty quick. I wonder if author has a second one coming as this one left me pondering. :-)
